Orthotic Holdings Inc is the parent company of SafeStep, Central Casting, AZAFO, Apex, Langer, Ped-Align, and TOG.
SafeStep works almost exclusively with Podiatrists providing one-stop shopping for DME products. SafeStep also provides services including Medicare billing and Worry Free DME service (document procurement for diabetic shoe program).
Most Doctors see patients with the following common conditions for AFO’s: Posterior Tibial Dysfunction, Drop Foot, Ostero Arthritis/DJD of the Ankle, Charcot, Chronic Ankle Instability, Gait and Balance Instability. All of these and many other conditions can be assisted with AFO’s. Appointing just 1-2 of these cases a week will be enough for the once or twice a month scheduled visit by the Clinician.
Bracing does not need to be the focus of the practice. What does the Doctor do now for those patients who present for conditions that do need a brace? If these cases are being sent out, Central Casting allows for the patients to be seen in the practice which is much more convenient for the patient, where the Doctor can see the outcomes on site and the revenue and profit stays in the practice. Many practices are performing fewer surgeries and looking for more sources of ethical incremental revenue.
The utilization of our Central Casting C. Ped frees up the time that the Doctor or staff spend on casting and dispensing. Also we have learned that when the office knows that our Clinician is scheduled to be on site, the staff and Doctor are more inclined to remember to watch for patients with the conditions that can be best served by the various devices that are available. Moreover, our Clinicians can keep the Doctor best informed about the best available choices for consideration as they are highly experienced and focused in this category.
Our Clinicians work under the direction and supervision of the Doctor. The Doctor makes the decision on the device. Many Doctors come to realize that our C. Ped is very experienced and knowledgeable. Over time, a mutually consultative process develops, but there is never a debate as to who is making the decision on the device to be ordered: The Doctor makes that decision without question.
Our best recommendation is to meet with our Clinician. You will quickly see how qualified, experienced and professional our Clinician is.
We can always figure out a schedule that can work. In all of our dealings in hundreds of offices, we have always been able to make the schedule work.
What other program can add $50,000 per year with 1 case a week with no investment in a machine or inventory or any marketing costs? There is no program in the profession that can provide the patient care and profit that this service can provide.
We can assist in getting the DME number. SafeStep has a staff that will guide the office through the process. It’s not that difficult to get a number and once the office has one, it opens up a world of possibilities for better patient care and profit. Also, if your office doesn’t have one and patients need products, they will go elsewhere and you will lose that patient to an office that does have a DME number.
This service has been up and running for several years for hundreds of Doctors in many states. There has never been a program like this in the profession. We are OK with you meeting our C. Ped first, perhaps scheduling a shadow day and doing a couple of cases, then recognizing the practical and financial outcomes. If you want to move along after that, great. If not, that’s OK, too.
Most staff are not comfortable with casting and dispensing for AFOs, and welcome someone else doing this.
Many of our most consistent and successful practices are single smaller offices, many solo practices. The reason that these practices do well with the service is that they need some assistance both in manpower and revenue enhancement. One MBB case a week adds $50,000 net profit and that is a lot of money to a small practice.
The office does all the precertification, documentation and submission; however, we have all the information that is needed, and we will teach the process to your staff.

The fee is $55 per hour. Using with the Moore Balance Brace (MBB) as an example, it will take about 45 minutes to cast bilaterally and about 15 minutes to dispense. Question: wouldn't you want to invest $55 to make a profit of $1000? 1 MBB case a week is a net profit of $50,000-$60,000 a year after paying for the C.Ped service using Central Casting.
